Jim’s Bowls Notes for Wednesday 3rd September

On a very sunny Spring afternoon, 29 of our Club Bowlers and our regular Bowler from the Majellan Club, Peter Drew, formed 5 games of Social Triples at The Green On William.

Game No.1:   Rink 8;

After the 3rd end, Skip.Denis Oxley, Daniel Prasad and our new Bowler, Steve Rowland  ( Welcome to the City, Steve. )  led 3 shots to 2 shots over Skip.Joe Young, Paul Rodenhuis and Robert Keady, who won the next 5 consecutive ends scoring 9 shots to lead 11 shots to 4 shots after the 9th end. Team Young scored a handy 5 shots to One shots to lead 16 shots to 4 shots after the 10th end against Team Oxley, who won 4 consecutive ends scoring 12 shots to draw level at 16 shots all  after the 14th end with Team Young. Both teams each scored 3 shots and the score was level at 19 shots all after the 19th end. Team Young scored 3 shots to lead 22 shots to 19 shots after the 20th end. But, Team Oxley by scoring 4 shots on the 21st end won ” The Match of the Day ” by 23 shots to 22 shots over Team Young.

Game No.2:     Rink 9.

By Scoring 9 shots to 2 Shots after the 4th end,Skip. Robert Bourke, Leroy Bourke and Phillip Murray  were leading against Skip. Peter Drew, Jack Smith and John Martin, who scored 7 shots to draw level on the 7th end at 9 shots all with Team Bourke. Both teams each scored One shot and the score after the 9th end was 10 shots all. but then by winning the next 7 consecutive ends scoring 17 shots, Team Bourke led 27 shots to 10 shots after the 16th end over Team Drew, who scored 6 shots, but were down 16 shots to 27 shots after the 19th end. Then by finishing with their usual “Flurry ” scoring 5 shots Team Bourke won convincingly by 32 shots to 16 shots over Team Drew after the 21st end. A very proud father, Robert nominated his son, Leroy as ” THe Man of the Match.”

Game No.3:     Rink 10.

On the 5th end, Skip.Paul Reece, Annette Myers and Rhonda Henry were leading 9 shots to 5 shots over Skip. Kathy Evans, Kim Turner and Julie Martello, who won the next 7 consecutive ends scoring 12 shots to lead 16 shots to 9 shots after the12th end. By scoring 9 shots to 5 shots Team Evans were leading 21 shots to 18 shots over Team Reece after the 19th end, who finished the best scoring 7 shots to win a great game of Lawn Bowls over Team Evans by 25 shots to 21 shots, No doubt Skip. Paul will look forward to playing with and against the 5 very component Ladies Bowlers again at the City.

Game No.4:     Rink 11.

A mighty 8 shots scored on the 3rd end by Skip. Robert Lindsay, John McDonagh and Scott Bennett  had them leading 12 shots to One shot over Skip. Luke Dobbie, Jim Grives and Pat Duff, who were down 6 shots to 15 shots after the 7th end.. Team Lindsay by scoring 8 shots to 7 shots then led 23 shots to 13 shots after the 16th end over Team Dobbie, who finished well, scoring 8 shots to 4 shots, but were beaten by Team Lindsay 27 shots to 21 shots after the 21st end.

Game No.5.     Rink 12.

By winning the 1st 5 consecutive ends, Skip. Ian Shaw, Kevin Miller and Michael Hope led 10 shots to Nil Over Skip. Garry Hotham, John Bolwell and Margaret Miller, who were down 11 shots to14 shots after the11th end against Team Shaw. Both teams each scored 11 shots with Team Shaw leading 21 shots to 11 shots after the 13th end over Team Hotham. By scoring 6 shots to 3 shots Team Shaw then led 27 shots to 14 shots after the 18th end over Team Hotham, who scored a great 6 shots and 2 shots, totalling 8 shots to One shot, but went down to Team Shaw 28 shots to 22 shots over Team Hotham after the 21st end. In this game Team Shaw were always in control of the Game.

This morning we heard the sad news that our Great Clubman and Wonderful Lead bowler, Barry McPherson had passed away on Monday, 2nd September, 2024 at the Bathurst District Hospital. Barry and his wife, Annette were very popular members of our Bowling Club  and we wish to convey to Annette and their Four children our Greatest Sympathy on their loss of  Barry, who was a loving Husband and Father.

Barry’s Funeral Service will be held at the Holy Trinity Church, Gilmour St Kelso next  Monday, 9th September, 2024 at 11.00 O’Clock. Members are asked to form a Guard of Honour, wearing Club colours. The wake will follow at the Club house on 29 William St Bathurst.
