Bowls Notes for Wednesday 22nd May 2024/
A beautiful sunny, windless afternoon was the best time to be on the greens at Bathurst City. Twenty players, including two Victorian visitors plus Peter Drew from Majellan took part in two Triples and two Pairs games. Missing was Jim Grives who was in hospital with four broken ribs following a fall. We hope that he has a speedy recovery and see him back on the greens soon.
Game 1, rink 8. Kevin Miller had visitor G. Cross and Margaret Miller playing against Norm Hayes, Annette Myers and May Cross. Kevin’s team had the whip hand early, with the first six ends yielding fifteen shots to nil. Norm’s team then took five of the next seven ends to bring the score up to 18-9. The game was called after twenty ends with the score on 22-16 for Kevin’s team.
Game 2, rink 9. Kathy Evans and new member Daniel Sealy played against Joe Young and John McDonagh. Joe and John opened with four shots, but Kathy and Daniel took the next four ends to lead 9-4. Joe and John fought back to level at 9-all after nine ends. By the 14th end, Kathy and Daniel had taken the lead out to 19-11; they comfortably held this to the end, finishing on 26-15.
Game 3, rink 10. Peter Drew and Phil Murray enjoyed a good game against John Archer and the rarely-sighted John Bolwell. It was close up to the eighth end, with Peter and Phil in front 9-7. Six ends later, they led 21-9. The two Johns scored a five in the 14th end, then a run of the last four ends to the 20th saw them narrow the gap to 25-22.
Game 4, rink 11. Paul Rodenhuis, Annette McPherson and Robert Keady (just back after a pacemaker operation) also had a close game against Denis Oxley, Trevor Kellock and Scott Bennett. After the eighth end Paul’s team were in front 8-7 and the next three ends saw that increase to 15-7. It was Denis’ team’s turn to score, taking the lead 15-14 after the seventeenth end. Paul’s team were victors on 21-18 after 21 ends.
